things you never learned in high school chemistry

there is actually a molecule called fucitol.

i'm not kidding about this. i saw it in a wikipedia entry about glycerine as a related molecule.

C6H14O5.

g'head. look it up.

i'm sure they pronounce it "FEW-si-tol" or something like that, but still.

fucitol!

naturally, the minute you saw it, you started to experiment with pronunciations. As one would.

I do not at all put it past chemists to have named it that especially, then told everyone they were pronouncing it wrong.
